According to the tire experts at the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co.,
taking proper care of your tires can prolong tread life by as much as
50 percent at virtually no extra cost! Here are a few tips you can
follow:
Tire inflation pressure should be checked frequently.
Tire inflation pressures should be checked when tires are cold,
before they have been driven on. Driving even a short distance causes
tires to heat up and air pressures to increase.
Under-inflated tires, driven even a short distance, may sustain irreparable damage.
The pressure should never be below the minimum listed on the
vehicle placard nor above the maximum branded on the sidewall of a
specific tire in normal driving conditions.
The best recommendation is to use the inflation pressure specified
on the vehicle placard. The O.E. vehicle manufacturer has determined
this pressure is optimal for load; ride handling, rolling resistance
and tread wear performance.
Unless otherwise recommended in your vehicle owner's manual, inspect and rotate tires every 6,000 -- 8,000 miles.
"Lincoln Penny" Tire Care Tip: To check the tread depth, insert a
penny (Lincoln's head first) into a tire groove. If you can see the top
of Lincoln's head you should replace your tires.
